Food Pantry
Onward Neighborhood House's Food Pantry is an efficient and effective food distribution program administered through the Family Services department. The Food Pantry is open to all of those in need within the greater West Town area (Division Street to the north, Lake Street to the south, Kedzie Avenue to the west, and Kinzie Avenue to the east). In 2006, the Onward House Food Pantry distributed 24,729 lbs. of food among 931 families and 3,199 individuals. For a typical month, Onward House will serve roughly 2,100 lbs. of food for 80 households and 270 individuals.
Onward House works in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD), a non-profit food bank that distributes donated and purchased food to 600 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to almost a half-million adults and children annually. A supplemental portion of food received by Onward House is on behalf of individual and group donors. Various church, corporate and school food drives add to the inventory of Onward House's Food Pantry.
The hours of operation for Onward House's Food Pantry are every Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or in the case of an emergency, anytime during normal business hours. If you are interested in donating your time or non-perishable foods to the Food Pantry or would like more information, please contact the Onward House Family Services at (312) 666-6726.
