4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament most successful year yet!
On September 15th over 100 golfers came to Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Illinois to hit the links and support Onward Neighborhood House. Due to a greater number of sponsorships and participants than previous years and a successful silent auction, Onward House raised over $80,000—the highest amount ever! Over the past four years, the golf outings have raised over $250,000 to support our Belmont Cragin facility.
Onward House would like to thank Irene Rodriguez, Jeff Lyman, Jim Durham, Eric Clamp and John Clopton for planning this fundraising event. We also owe gratitude to our sponsors, Transparent Container and Neutral Tandem and all participants. Without them, we could not have reached this enormous milestone. To see photos from the event, be sure to check out our Facebook page.
New video shows growth at Onward Neighborhood House
We are excited to introduce our new video all about Onward House's Belmont Cragin facility. Interviews with members of our Board of Directors and parents give an inside look at the planning and completion of our agency's second location. It displays the mutual cooperation among Onward House, the community and our supporters that has allowed us to grow into the agency that we are today. The video can also be viewed on YouTube and our Facebook page in order to be shared with family and friends.
Thank you to Ben Mahoney Productions for preparing this great video at a nominal fee. The involvement of Chicago-area companies is crucial to our continuing success!
A Sunny Day for the End of the Year Celebration Picnic
Onward House children, families, and staff gathered at Smith Park on August 23rd to celebrate the end of the program year for our West Town site. Hosted by the Onward House Auxiliary Board, the 4th annual picnic included Pockets sandwiches and tons of other treats for everyone to enjoy before joining in on some family fun! Families played carnival games, soccer, kickball, and had snow cones from our very own snow cone machine. It was a great way for everyone to get together to celebrate another wonderful year with Onward House.
Auxiliary Board members brought temporary tattoos and beads for bracelet making to go along with games like musical chairs, bean bag toss, an obstacle course, Plinko and more! Click here or visit our Facebook page to see more photos. Thank you to the Auxiliary Board, Onward House teachers, staff, and families for coming together to make this picnic a success! If you would like information on joining the Onward House Auxiliary Board, please contact Carolyn at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Deloitte IMPACT Day
June 10th marked the third year Deloitte volunteers have come to Onward House for IMPACT Day. Each year, Deloitte encourages their 50,000+ people across the country to set aside their work for the day to contribute their time and talent to benefit local nonprofits. On the annual day of service, tens of thousands of Deloitte personnel volunteer at 800+ community service projects in more than 70 communities nationwide.
This year, the group of 50 split up between Onward House’s West Town and Belmont Cragin facilities; working on site improvement projects from painting and sanitizing classrooms to touch up of our playground mural and pulling weeds. Both groups were a huge help and our staff really enjoyed working with everyone! A special thanks to John and Amy, coordinators who really took charge and got so much accomplished. The Deloitte employees volunteered their day and truly transformed our lounge, garden, playgrounds and classrooms. Click here to see more photos.
We are so thankful that Deloitte IMPACT Day volunteers came to Onward House and once again took the time to improve our space for the children and families we serve. It is through the hard work of such wonderful volunteers that we are able to maintain our two sites and offer the highest quality of programs and services possible. Thank you Deloitte, hope to see you next year!
Volunteer Group Visits West Town
City Year and their partners at Corporate Executive Board came to Onward House's West Town facility for a day of site improvement projects last Friday, June 3rd. City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service. City Year corps members engage community members, corporate partners and civic leaders in transformative physical service projects. The group of over 80 volunteers came in with such enthusiasm, which stayed constant throughout the day of painting and replacing the woodchips on our playground. Onward House is so appreciative of the hard work this great group put inů Thank you City Year and Corporate Executive Board! Click here to see more photos.
Volunteers are a vital component to the success of Onward House programs and services, from reading with the children to painting classrooms; there are many ways your talents can help us to better serve the community. For more information about volunteering at Onward House, please contact Maggie Roberts Quinn at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Belmont Cragin Site Celebrates 3 Year Anniversary
May 28th marks 3 years that Onward House’s Belmont Cragin facility has been operational! The new site continues to have a profound impact on the immediate and surrounding communities. In the last program year alone, over 100 children enrolled in our Early Childhood Education and School Age Programs; 709 residents used our a Community Computer Resource Center (CCRC), with 272 adults successfully completing free computer education classes and increasing their employability; and scores of parents gained knowledge from the free monthly workshops we offer on a variety of topics, including health, nutrition, child education and family relationships.
We are extremely pleased with how the staff and community have grown together, establishing Onward House as a cornerstone organization in the Belmont Cragin community. It is due to the dedication of Onward House staff and Board of Directors that the opening and successful operation of this site has been possible. We happily celebrate this anniversary and look forward to being a part of the Belmont Cragin community for many years to come!

As spring begins to show signs of new growth, Onward House is pleased to announce a new relationship with Nuestro Futuro (Our Future), an initiative of The Chicago Community Trust. Nuestro Futuro grant making focuses on early care and educational programs for Latino children from birth through age five.
Onward House thanks Nuestro Futuro for a recent grant award supporting the Prevention Initiative classroom of two-year old children at the Belmont Cragin location. The Prevention Initiative works with children and their families to build a strong foundation for later school success; a natural fit with the goals of Onward House’s Early Childhood Education Program.
For 95 years, The Chicago Community Trust has connected the
generosity of donors with the needs of the community by making grants to
organizations working to improve metropolitan Chicago. Learn more at www.cct.org.

Another Busy Ho-Ho-Holiday Season Concludes at Onward House
Onward House just ended another busy holiday season with our annual holiday party, gift drive and food drive. This marks the fourth year that the Onward House Auxiliary Board helped host the holiday party at our West Town site. Among the festivities were fun activities, like making mini glittering Christmas trees, while everyone got to enjoy some pizza, cookies and soda. As a special surprise, Santa, Mrs. Claus and a helpful Elf visited the classrooms of children and their parents and gave everyone goodie bags! With the help of our generous donors, Onward House was able to provide gifts to 391 children at the West Town and Belmont Cragin sites, the children enrolled in our Home Based Early Childhood Education program, and the children who are enrolled in our partnership organizations! Once again, the holiday spirit and dedication of our supporters helped make this season one that was filled with gifts, laughter and joy for the families Onward House serves.
We would like to give a special thanks to our holiday supporters Marge Kovach of First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, Jeanann Power of Edgebrook Community Church, Sylvia Studt of Glenview Community Church, Toni Bernotus of WDRV - The Drive 97.1, and Laura Thonn of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Glenbrook South High School, the Auxiliary Board and all of our many supporters who helped make our annual holiday party another huge success! Happy New Year!
